Three win Godoy Awards

Three Northeast Texas Community College history students recently have won Brenda Godoy Awards for superior conceptualization in their semester essay submissions over the course of the 2021-2022 academic year. Heslie Castañon, Mattheson Wright, and Alyssa Ochoa will each receive $50.

Tiger football camp next week

The Mount Pleasant football program is doing its part to build up the “#Family.” The annual Mount Pleasant Tiger Youth Football Camp will take place from 1-3 p.m. July 11-13 at Sam Parker Field.

One dead in crash at MP airport

A plane crash late Sunday night near the Mount Pleasant Regional Airport has left one dead and several people injured and the National Transportation Safety Board looking for answers. The plane was identified as a Piper PA-32, a single engine plane that carries up to six people.

City, County discussing fire protection contract renewal terms

At the last meeting of the Titus County Commissioners Court, fire protection was once again the hot topic. Mount Pleasant Fire Chief Larry McRae, City Manager Ed Thatcher, and Finance Director Miykael Reeve were in attendance to discuss the terms for renewing the contract between the City and County. According to Titus County Judge Brian Lee, one preliminary meeting has been held.

The Texas heat is here to stay and forecasters say the next few weeks will be a typical Texas heatwave, plus some. Forecasters are telling us that a northward shift in the jet stream will build a “heat dome” on top of the central part of the United States, with temperatures rising anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

MPHS FFA members attend leadership conference in Washington D.C.

The annual Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) was created in 1969. For the past fifty-three years, FFA members from across the country have converged on Washington, D.C. in the summer to evaluate their personal skills and interests, develop leadership talents, and create service plans that will make a difference in their communities. The WLC is the second largest student experience that the National FFA Organization hosts each year with more than 2,300 registered students.
