Monticello demolition continues

With a boom felt throughout the city, the remaining Monticello Power Plant boilers have now been demolished. Tri Lakes Volunteer Fire Department and the Mount Pleasant Fire Department were on scene as boilers 1 and 2 were imploded around 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Two Presidential Scholars win $100 Eckman Awards

For their performance in challenging honors courses at NTCC in relation to their peers, two Presidential Scholars will win $100 checks. Hope Kelly, an art and costume-design major, recently promoted to Presidential Scholar, won her award as an honors freshman, ranking number one in the Stat-Psych Honors Seminar taught this past spring by Dr. Karyn Skaar and Dr. Paula Wilhite. NTCC’s Dr. Jerry Wesson Scholar, Aaliyah Avellaneda, who finished this past May, was the sophomore who took all twenty-one hours of requisite honors courses, and ended with the highest GPA.

Camp Langston to host Chamber’s Happy Birthday USA

The annual Happy Birthday USA event put on by the Mount Pleasant-Titus County Chamber of Commerce and Bo Rester State Farm is slated for June 25 this year. The free celebration will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. This year’s event will once again be held at Camp Langston RV Resort.

High potassium and grass tetany

In the past, it was believed by many that grass tetany in cattle was primarily a result of a magnesium deficiency in soils and forages. But grass tetany, milk fever, and possible downer cow syndrome, according to more recent studies, is more likely to be a result of forages that are high in potassium.
