The Chapel Hill Lady Devils split a win and a loss this past Monday and Tuesday in softball. On Monday, the Lady Devils made up their past Friday’s game with Quitman. In a pivotal match with playoff seedings and playoff games on the line, the Lady Devils had lots to play for. The game opened up with Chapel Hill batting a runner across home plate to lead the game 1-0 after the first inning. The game was deadlocked each inning until the Lady Devils once again put a runner across home plate in the fourth inning to advance the lead to 2-0. Quitman quickly matched the one run in the fifth inning to bring the game to a 2-1 match. The Lady Devils held on to the end to finish the game with a 2-1 victory.
The Mount Pleasant Tiger and Lady Tiger track teams took nine athletes to the Area Track Meet held at Hallsville High School on Wednesday. Six of those nine finished in the top four of their respective events to advance to the regional track meet hosted by University of Texas-Arlington next weekend. The Tigers had four athletes crowned area champions in their events accumulating 69 total team points. Mount Pleasant finished behind Longview (88), Lufkin (94), and area champ Pine Tree (97).
Chapel Hill ISD and the Lady Devils will be saying goodbye to Coach Matt Garrett and Coach Courtney Garrett as they will be leaving Chapel Hill after six highly successful years. They will be moving back west toward where their children are attending college.
Rains forced the Northeast Texas Community College series with Navarro to undergo changes this past week. NTCC was to host Navarro on Thursday but rains on Wednesday made the field unplayable so the Eagles traveled to Navarro on Friday for the first two games of the series. NTCC and Navarro still had to make up a game from the first round when they lost out on games due to weather as well. Navarro won game one of the day 5-2 and then took game two 10-5.
The Chapel Hill Red Devil Track teams competed in the District track meet on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a great meet with several athletes qualifying for Area.
