Brahmas win Hawkins Tournament

The Pewitt Brahmas traveled to Hawkins last week for the Hawkins Holiday Hoops Tournament, bringing the title home to Morris County with a 67-50 win over DeKalb. The Brahmas also defeated East Texas Homeschool, 61-54, and the host Hawks, 68-52. Pewitt continued district play Tuesday at home against New Boston, and will host Queen City Friday. COURTESY PHOTO

CHAAMP Hawks soar past Paris Trinity Christian

In their final contest of 2021, the CHAAMP Hawks didn’t need long to put the game away. The Hawks led after one quarter, 21-6 and at the half, 41-13 on their way to an 83-33 win over Paris Trinity Christian.

Bulldog JV 1 team runs past Cumby

The Harts Bluff boys basketball teams hoped to finish 2021 on a high note when they took on Cumby at Bulldog Gymnasium Tuesday afternoon. The JV 2 team lost an overtime heartbreaker to the Trojans, 23-21.

2021 Football Season in Review

The Mount Pleasant Tigers returned to the playoffs for the first time in four years after a 51-13 win over Jacksonville clinched them third place. The TIgers traveled to College Station to take on A&M Consolidated in the bi-district round, but lost to the Tigers on the road. Mount Pleasant will have to replace a sizeable senior class as well as a head coach after Athletic Director RItchie Pinckard stepped down as Mount Pleasant’s Head Coach. The Tigers will benefit from an undefeated JV squad joining the varsity ranks next year.

Note: the good people at Dave Campbell’s Texas Football recently released redistricting predictions based on the snapshot numbers turned in by the state’s schools. These are merely predictions and one writer’s thoughts on them. The new districts will be announced in February.

In the midst of a tight game in their district opener against Redwater on a cold night last Tuesday, the Pewitt Brahmas turned up the heat in the second half with a massive performance on offense and defense ro clinch the win.

Lady Brahmas hold off Redwater for 1st district win

The Pewitt Lady Brahmas picked up their first district win of the year last Tuesday, doing so in the final seconds. With eight seconds left in the game, Pewitt’s Dazha Cooper headed to the line and sank two free throws to give the Lady Brahmas the lead in the waning sec onds.
