New beginning: CH volleyball opens district with win at Quitman

The Chapel Hill Lady Devils have bounced back from a slow start at just the right time and showcased their improvement Friday night in their district opener.

The Lady Devils traveled to Quitman and picked up a 3-1 win (25-11, 21-25, 25-10, 25-14) over the Lady Bulldogs.

Chapel Hill jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening set, maintaining that momentum on their way to the opening set win. Quitman would not go quietly and turned the tables in set two, holding on for the win.

The Lady Devils took control of the match early in set three and rolled to the win and kept up the pressure in the fourth set to close things out.

“This was a great start to district,” said Lady Devil Head Coach Bretley Beasley.

Hannah Rhea finished with 18 digs. Kaylee Tompkins put down nine kills and Cailyn Johnson added six kills. Ella Waldon dished out 15 assists and Keira Hawkins added 11 digs and eight kills.

Coach Beasley said her team has put the rough start behind them.

“We are playing with winning on our minds,” she said. “The girls are working hard in hopes that we make playoffs!”

Chapel Hill opened the home portion of district play Tuesday when they hosted Harmony. The team will travel to Mount Vernon Friday.
