Rebels fall to Knights in area round

All season, the Rivercrest Rebel basketball team looked to run, swinging the ball to its playmakers and creating good open shots. Unfortunately, this strategy was not a secret to their area round opponent, the Lindsay Knights, a team known for its defense.

Chapel Hill sends 6 to regional powerlifting meet

Six Chapel Hill girls powerlifters took part in the Region 3 powerlifting meet, held in Fairfield. Rainie Mott (132 lbs.), Kristen Brown (132 lbs.), EmiLee Brown (165 lbs.), Marie Hernandez (198 lbs.), Bri Zaragoza (220 lbs.) and Flor Carillo (220 lbs.) all competed in this weekend’s meet, in which the top two lifters from each weight class and any lifter meeting the qualifying standard advanced to the upcoming state powerlifting meet.

Mount Pleasant High School Tiger Dolls select new members

The Mount Pleasant High School Tiger Dolls held tryouts for the 2022-2023 school year on Saturday, February 26 in the newly renovated Tiger Doll room at MPHS. The 22-23 line features 40 members. Members include Jalyssa Aguilar, Alin Alvarado, Melanie Barraza, Chloe Carter, Valerie Cassio, Kaylin Castaneda, Violet Castaneda, Yasmin Castaneda, Alyse Cervantes, Madison Craig, Nayeli Dominguez, Alexandra Estrada, Marlyn Estrada, Ke’Aundra Evans, Anna Kate Fisher, Audrey Fisher, Mayte Flores, Haley Garcia, Audrey Garrett, Jamie Garrett, Aylin Hernandez, Arely Lopez, Mollie Luck, Deleismy Martinez, Noemi Martinez, Raquel Martinez, Zulma Mejia, Dollian Phan, Madeline Plascencia, Caydance Reynolds, Emily Robles, Genevieve Rubio, Briana Sanchez, Michelle Sandoval, Makayla Spigner, Evelyn Valente, Valeria Vega, Mishelle Ysasi, Haley Zavala, and Morgan Zepeda. The Head Manager is Andrianna Price with managers Kaylie Castillo, Yahedi Evans, Ashley Garcia, Kim Garcia, Esther Gonzalez, Ja’Den Green, Ayraonne McCoo, and Emilee Miles. The Tiger Dolls are under the direction of Jaton Broach.

Defense and free throws seal Bi-District Championship for Tigers

The Mount Pleasant Tigers entered the 2022 UIL Playoffs on Friday in hopes of returning to the regional tournament for the third year in a row. Mount Pleasant claimed the 2-seed in District 15-5A which pitted them against the 3-seed Tyler of District 16-5A. The game quickly became reflective of what the Tigers have done all season as they had to mount a double-digit comeback to take the victory, 50-41.

Lady Tigers walk it off to remain undefeated

The Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers (6-0) played host to Pleasant Grove Tuesday afternoon as the arctic blast blew in at Lady Tiger Field. In a game scheduled for a 4:30 start, the seven-inning contest turned into a three-and-a-half-hour affair with Mount Pleasant walking it off in bottom of the tenth inning. The 8-7 victory was the second win of the season against Pleasant Grove, the other a 12-8 win in the Sulphur Springs Tournament last weekend.

Lady Tigers dominate All-District selections

After finishing undefeated in district and putting up one of their best seasons to date, the Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers were represented well with 10 selections to the District 15-5A All-District Team.
