Building from the ground up is never easy. The Harts Bluff baseball program wouldn’t want easy, anyway. The Bulldogs, in their first UIL district, have taken their lumps in a tough district slate, but did pick up their first ever district win March 17 when they shut out Detroit, 7-0.

The Rivercrest Lady Rebels kept pace with district leader Como-Pickton with wins in their three games after falling against the Lady Eagles back on March 28. After the loss, the Lady Rebels hosted Alba-Golden and held off a game Lady Panther squad in extra innings, 5-4.

It was a tough week for the Mount Pleasant Tiger baseball team, despite playing both their district matchups at O.L. Colley FIeld. The Tigers started the week against Longview, but the Lobos got off to a fast start to negate Mount Pleasant’s strong finish in an 11-5 decision.

Both Chapel Hill High School golf teams finished second at the district meet last week. Katie Hart won the individual district title for the third consecutive year. On the boys’ side, Tristan Davis finished second overall. Both teams will advance to the regional tournament in Bullard April 17-20.

Outdoors Writer One of the cool things about calling spring turkeys is no two hunts are ever the same. The idea is to fool a gobbler into thinking you are something you are not, and to ultimately lure the regal bird into shotgun range, 40 yards or less.

Crappie Masters on Fork

Lake Fork in northeast Texas cranked out some impressive weights in the two-day Crappie Masters National team qualifier held March 31 April 1. Teams were allowed to bring seven fish to the scales each day. Hayden and Dan Jeffries of Brandon, Mississippi topped 62 teams with a two-day weight of 35.

Sports Clays Shoot

The Jasper Lions Club will host its 5th Annual Benefit Sporting Clay Shoot supporting local charities and youth shooting sports beginning at 10 a.m. on April 29 at the Jasper Country Club and RV Resort. The shoot will be 10 stations and 10 shots per station.

Lady Tiger golf claims District Championship, Tigers place 3rd

The Mount Pleasant High School Tiger and Lady Tiger golf teams played in the District 15-5A tournament at Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater on March 27-28 for the Tigers and March 29-30 for the Ladies.
