The Chapel Hill Lady Devils are a young team facing squads with more experience in their district slate. The team finds itself battling with their usually senior- led opposition, but falling just short in back and forth games.
Chapel Hill went 1-3 in their last four games, picking up the win at home against Winona, 20-3. The Lady Devils scored 10 runs in the first and second innings to slam the door.
Rheanne Guerra finished 2-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Emi Newman went 2-3 with two doubles and scored three times. Brooklynn Morales added a hit and scored three times. Hannah Rhea and Katie McGregor also both scored three times and Kayda White and Mackenzie Bowers both scored twice. Adie Rosewell finished with two RBIs and McGregor, White and Azzy Fluellen each added RBIs.
The Lady Devils were speed demons on the basepaths with 28 steals on the day. Morales stole five bases and Rosewell and Guerra each had four steals. Newman, White, Bowers and Rhea all finished with three steals, McGregor stole two bases and Fluellen finished with one steal.
Morales allowed just one hit and struck out six. Chapel Hill had a rough night in their next game, falling at home to Harmony, 15-2. Harmony scored 11 times in the first inning.
The Lady Devils then met district leading Winnsboro, falling just short of victory in an 11-7 loss. The game was tied 7-7 going into the final inning, but the Lady Raiders finished with four runs in the top of the seventh.
Morales had two hits, a double, three steals, an RBI and a run scored. Newman had a double, a steal and two RBIs and White finished with a steal and an RBI. Rosewell notched a triple and Guerra finished with an RBI and a steal. Fluellen added two stolen bases.
Morales added eight strikeouts. Chapel Hill traveled to Mineola to end the week last week and battled back from a six-run deficit, but the Lady Jackets held on, 10-7.
Fluellen went 2-3 with a home run, a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Cailyn Johnson also had a solo homer. Rhea also added two hits. Rosewell had a double and Newman scored twice, had a steal and an RBI. Morales struck out two.
The Lady Devils traveled to Quitman Tuesday and will host Mount Vernon Friday.
