Mistakes doom Tigers in loss to Mavericks

As a team looks to grow over the course of a football season, the players and coaches generally learn a few lessons about themselves. Thursday at Frisco’s Toyota Stadium, the Mount Pleasant Tigers learned that they can’t be their own worst enemy.

Lady Tigers outlasted by Pine Tree to open district

After completing a challenging pre-district schedule, the Mount Pleasant volleyball was poised and ready to take on Pine Tree at Willie Williams Gym on Friday. An epic five-set match ensued with the Lady Tigers fighting tooth and nail to try and come out victorious. However, there just wasn’t enough juice in the tank to get the Lady Tigers over the hump as they eventually fell in the almost two-hour long match.

One of the many challenges for a head coach is creating a schedule each season. The schedule needs to include some confidence boosting wins but at the same time prepare your team for what they will face in district play and beyond. Coming off a successful tournament championship in Mt Vernon, the Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers experienced their toughest week in preparation for district to begin.

Labor Day Shoot Out

The 26th Annual Jerry Jones Memorial Shoot Out was held Friday, September 2nd, 2022 at the Mt. Pleasant Country Club. 21 participants entered from as far as Phoenix, Arizona. After eliminating 17 players it came down to 3 holes and 4 players. Outlasting all golfers was Jake Hendrix from Dallas. 2nd place went to Gladewater’s Curtis Crabtree, winner of the inaugural Jerry Jones Shoot Out held before the 1996 Labor Day Golf Classic. 3rd place was Ryan James of Mt. Pleasant and 4th place was B.J. Berkenbile formally of Mt. Pleasant and now a resident of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Chapel Hill Junior High Baseball and Softball keep winning

Tuesday night was a great night to be at the ballpark on “The Hill.” Visiting teams from Fruitvale, North Lamar and Bloomburg brought out big crowds in the Chapel Hill home openers. Junior high softball saw an unprecedented performance by pitcher Addysyn Billings.
