Pick your own muscadines at the NTCC farm

Body
It is muscadine harvesting time at NTCC Farm! The farm crew has been picking as many as they can and the vines are still loaded! Everyone is welcome to come out to the college farm vineyard and harvest some for their own jelly making or wine making. The farm has 10 different varieties of muscadine - purple or gold! The cost is $5 a gallon to pick and they have a limited number of picked/frozen muscadines for $10 a gallon. According to René McCracken, Ag Director, a regular grocery bag full is enough to make a small batch of jelly. Please contact René McCracken at rmccracken@ntcc.edu or 903-434-8267 to make an appointment to pick. Follow the NTCC Ag Department on Facebook or visit www.ntcc.edu/ag to stay up-to-date with all of the exciting things happening at the farm!

Child car seats save lives but nearly half are misused

Body
Vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death among children in the nation, so the Texas Department of Transportation is reminding parents that one of the most important things they can do to protect children is to properly install and use a car seat. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that 46% of all child car seats are misused.

A time to be serious

Body
It was brought to my attention earlier today that my missives here in this space every week have taken on a more serious tone. That is a fairly accurate description as it seems the Lord has been guiding me to be more serious of late and that tells me there must be a reason for the more dire tone. Perhaps it is due to the fact that my own life has been fairly serious of late, or maybe it is because I feel like the days we live in require a seriousness that most seem to not recognize.

Chapel Hill Celebrates Grandparents

Body
When we think of the most important people in our lives, grandparents are at the top of the list. There is a reason their name begins with ‘grand.’ At Chapel Hill Elementary, that was on display recently at the annual Grandparents Breakfast. Families were invited for breakfast fellowship with their loved ones. In order to anticipate the large crowds, the event was scheduled over two days to allow for more interactions with loved ones and others in attendance. Over the two days, Chapel Hill Elementary welcomed over 250 grandparents into the cafeteria.

Communities in Schools working to meet the needs of Northeast Texas school children

Body
With all of our area schools well underway on a new school year, the need to take care of students across the area is hard to miss. Things like school supplies, clothing and simple hygiene products are always needed to help make the days just a little bit easier. In a county like Titus County, where 20.8 percent, or roughly one in five live below the poverty line, simple things can become a challenge for school aged children.
