Mount Pleasant XC finishes strong in final tuneup

In their last race before the district meet, the Mount Pleasant Tigers and Lady Tigers competed in the Lindale Invitational on Thursday looking to improve upon their personal bests. The Tigers finished in second place overall as a team with a strong showing, decidedly defeating all their district opponents in the meet. The Lady Tigers finished third overall, securing one of their best finishes this season.

MPJH XC finishes third, fifth

The Tiger and Lady Tiger Junior High cross-country runners traveled to Hallsville last weekend to compete in the district meet which would be the last meet of the season. Both teams performed well with the boys finishing in third overall and the girls posting a fifth-place team finish.

TPWD community outdoor outreach program grant deadline nears

The deadline to apply for a CO-OP grant with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is quickly approaching on November 1. Community groups often face barriers connecting Texans to the outdoors -- transportation, meals, training, outdoor gear and supplies, to name a few.

Pewitt seventh grade running back Zakevion “Wooda” Betts carries the ball in Thursday’s game against DeKalb. Betts scored a touchdown and Jackson Pelphrey added a sack, but the seventh grade Brahmas lost to the Cubs, 24-6.

Tigers move to 2-1 in district with win at Nac

On the road at Nacogodoches Friday, the Mount Pleasant Tigers found their backs against the wall. The Dragons held the Tigers scoreless in the first quarter, then Nac’s D’Marea Weaver notched a 58-yard pick six to put Nacogdoches ahead 14-0.

Brahmas halt Mustangs’ undefeated stampede with 61-36 win

Going into Friday’s game, both the Pewitt Brahmas and Chisum Mustangs were looking to make a statement in District 10-3A Division II, One team had gotten off to a hot start, winning its first five games, outscoring its first five opponents 268-90 and rolling to victory in its first two district games. The combined record of that team’s opponents going into Friday night was 13-16.

Rebels bedeviled by Blue Devils

The game started with two quick scores and ended up decided by two muffed kickoff returns and a late 14-0 run. Unfortunately for the Rivercrest Rebels, they were the team hurt by both factors as they dropped a heartbreaking shootout, 61-56, against the Celeste Blue Devils at The Swamp Friday night.

Tiger XC dominates at Titus County Fair invitational

A cool, fall morning created the perfect atmosphere as Mount Pleasant High School hosted its annual Titus County Fair XC Invitational last Saturday morning. The boys’ varsity won its second meet of the season defending their home turf and sweeping the podium in the process. The JV girls and boys also won first in their division with the junior high girls finishing 12th and junior high boys finishing 4th.

JV Tigers burn Dragons

Nacogdoches may be the Dragons, but Thursday night, it was the Mount Pleasant JV that turned on the burners. Mount Pleasant scored eight touchdowns, with seven covering 20 yards or more, on the way to a 55- 28 JV victory over the Dragons.
