Daingerfield, Pewitt clash in ‘Morris County Championship’

What has become an annual event-the Morris County Championship- was held Oct. 22. The game, which pitted two undefeated teams battling for district supremacy, saw Brahma Stadium in Omaha filled to capacity on both sides. The Daingerfield Tigers and Pewitt Brahmas each entered the game at 3-0. But, after the dust settled, the Tigers came away on top, 42-6.

Panthers edge Rebels late, 15-14

The Rivercrest defense did a good job corralling the Alba-Golden offense Friday. Unfortunately, the Rebels were ultimately undone by costly penalties and the Panthers edged Rivercrest, 15-14.

Volleyball teams hit home stretch vying for playoffs

Area volleyball teams are winding down their regular seasons, with several still in the playoff hunt. A look back at recent action on the court: The Mount Pleasant Lady TIgers honored their five seniors Tuesday and hoped to give the five -- Trinitee Brannon, Mariana Gonzalez, Ladi Guereca, Hadleigh Mays and Genesis Roberson -- a victory in their final home match against the district’s first place team, Texas HIgh.Despite their best efforts, Mount Pleasant fell short, but not before hanging tough in the first two sets.

Mount Pleasant golf takes Sulphur Springs invitational

The Mount Pleasant Tigers were in midseason form on Monday as they took 1st place in the second match of their fall schedule. The team of Matthew Peterson, Brady Sisk, George Burrows, Sam Sloan, and Kade Strickland torched the Sulphur Springs Country Club course for a team total 316 strokes. Paris was the next closest team, 15 strokes back, at 331.

TABC pre-season poll ranks Tigers #14

The Mount Pleasant Tiger basketball team has been selected #14 in class 5A in the latest preseason poll released this week. The Tigers enter their eighth season under head coach Joey Chism as the program has continually made a name for itself, finishing in the top ten in the state the past two seasons.

Tiger basketball releases 2021-2022 schedule

With the changing of the leaves and the onset of cooler weather, excitement and anticipation for the upcoming basketball season has begun. This season will look slightly different with Covid-19 regulations released and the opportunity for teams to participate in tournaments allowed.

MPHS bass fishing team competes on Lake O’ the Pines

The Mount Pleasant High School Bass Fishing Team continued their regular season at the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) tournament on Lake O’ the Pines on October 16. First for the Tigers, the team of Rolston Morton and Seth Robertson placed 68th out of 124 teams with 1 fish weighing 2.15 lbs.

Tiger XC takes district championship

The Mount Pleasant boys’ varsity cross-country team won their second consecutive district championship last Thursday scoring 24 points and dominating the competition. Pine Tree finished in second with 51 points and Hallsville wrapped up third with 60 points. The girls’ varsity team finished in fifth place and the JV girls and JV boys finished in third place and second place, respectively.

Rebels fall at Cooper

The Rivercrest Rebels hoped to pull off an upset of undefeated Cooper to give them a leg up in the playoff race. Unfortunately, despite a close first half, the Bulldogs pulled away starting late in the second quarter as Cooper picked up a 50-8 win over Rivercrest.
