Rivercrest’s Mankins named Academic All-State

Rivercrest volleyball player Kori Mankins was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) academic all-state teams, announced recently. Mankins was named to the second team, one of four levels of the Academic All-State team.

Lady Tigers honored by district coaches

Several members of the Mount Pleasant Lady Tiger volleyball team were recognized by the coaches of 15- 5A with the release of the district’s All-District team. Sophomore setter Jordan Andrade was named the district’s top server after a season with 27 aces against only 13 errors in 245 servesand a serve percentage of 94.7.

Big plays doom Tigers’ season, fall in first round of playoffs

The Mount Pleasant Tigers’ season ended last Friday at the hands of A&M Consolidated, 55-21, as Consolidated used chunk plays to score quick and bury the Tigers early. The College Station Tigers jumped out to a 28-0 lead before Mount Pleasant responded with a couple of scores of their own. But that would be as close as our hometown team would get as they could not overcome the early deficit.

Season ends for Pewitt Brahmas

Almost ironically, it was the run and run defense that ended Pewitt’s 36th Running of the Bulls. Paced by the efforts of Kevin Pierce, the Troup Tigers broke open a close game in the second half to eliminate the Brahmas, 52-34.

Lady Devils honored by district coaches

The season may have ended much earlier than Chapel Hill volleyball fans would have liked but a number of Lady Devils were honored with the release of the 13-3A All-District volleyball team. Junior libero Hannah Rhea was named the district’s Co-Defensive MVP.

Varsity girls teams open basketball season

A number of the area’s varsity girls’ basketball teams kicked off their respective seasons this past week. A recap of early season action: Coach Tina Carillo’s Mount Pleasant Tigers hope to extend what is currently a six-year streak of making the playoffs.

Greco notches silver, bronze as Tiger Swim continues to improve

Sophie Greco had one of her best meets of the season last weekend as the Tiger Swim team traveled to Texarkana to compete in the Magnolia Texas vs Arkansas Challenge held at the Texas ISD Aquatic Center. Greco finished second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 50-yard freestyle to take home two medals on the day.

MPHS cheerleaders place third in competition

The Mount Pleasant High School Cheerleaders competed in the NCA North Dallas Regional in Rockwall on November 7. In the Game Day Coed Varsity division, the cheerleaders placed 1st in band chant, outscoring some 6A teams, and received a perfect score in visual appeal in fight song. Overall, the MPHS cheerleaders finished 3rd in their division.
