The Chapel Hill Lady Devils started off with a win this past Friday to begin their season 1-0. They hosted Joaquin at home to a good size crowd. The first quarter saw both teams trying to work out kinks seeing opportunities each team missed. Chapel Hill finally got into a bit of a rhythm and finished off the quarter 18-10. The second quarter saw the Lady Devils defense kick in and they made the most of the opportunities. Chapel Hill won the second quarter 19-2 and pushed the lead to 37-12 at halftime.
Northeast Texas Community College Athletic teams will complete the fall competition season this weekend with the final Fall Rodeo competition hosted by Sam Houston State University.
The Mount Pleasant subvarsity football teams both won their games last Thursday evening. The freshman topped Nacogdoches 28-8 with running back Trent Lane scoring two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. Quaterback Mason McMinn had a touchdown pass and a two-point conversion to Owen Green. Harrison Wall and Dylan Bennett recorded interceptions for the Tigers with Wall returning his pick for a score. Antez Jeffery and Christian Coleman recovered fumbles on the evening.
The Mount Pleasant Tigers fought valiantly Friday night to erase a 19-point deficit but couldn’t ever take the lead as they dropped their third straight district matchup. Both teams entered the contest in search of their first district victory with Nacogdoches doing just enough in the second half to hold off the surging Tigers.
The Mount Pleasant High School Tigers and Lady Tigers golf teams played in the Longview Invitational on Tuesday at the Tempest Golf Club located in Gladewater. The Lady Tiger team finished in third place with a total score of 405. Grelyn Goolsby led the team with an 82 followed by Sophie Greco at 103, Isabella Greco 109, and Reese Ball 111. Goolsby secured a top ten finish placing sixth overall. The Tiger team also took home third place shooting a cumulative score of 338. Leading the TIgers was Matthew Peterson with a 78 putting him fourth place overall. He was followed by George Burrows’ 82, Jackson Stone at 88, Kade Strickland 89, Brady Sisk 90, Sam Sloan 90, Clayton Brison 92, and Jacob Elliott 104. Tempest Golf Club will be the site of the district tournament held in March.
