Tigers plunder Pirates, 67-38

The Mount Pleasant Tigers improved their district record to 3-1 on Friday with a victory over the visiting Pine Tree Pirates to move into a tie for second place. A dominant second half defensive showing by the Tigers limited Pine Tree to just 8 points and pushed the Tigers to an easy win.

Brahmas, Lady Brahmas both fall at Hooks

The Pewitt Brahmas and Lady Brahmas both returned to the court Monday after a pause due to Covid, with the squads traveling to Bowie County to take on Hooks. In the girls’ game, Pewitt kept the action close for a quarter before the Lady Hornets shooting warmed up a cold night as Hooks won over the Lady Brahmas, 63-41.

COVID remains undefeated, forces local reschedulings

With a number of area schools forced to close last week due to rising Covid numbers, teams looked to shuffle their schedules with a number of teams in the thick of the district title race. Harts Bluff was scheduled to hold Homecoming festivities Tuesday evening during their game against Yantis, but Homecoming has been postponed until Feb.

Northeast Texas Community College Athletes will begin returning to the campus on Thursday, January 13 to begin to prepare for the Spring 2022 seasons. NTCC Rodeo will kick things off first on January 28th and 29th at the Texas A&M University-Commerce Rodeo held at the Hopkins County Civic Center in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

CHAAMP Hawks win 2022 Paris Hoops Tournament

The CHAAMP Hawks traveled to Roxton this past weekend to participate in the 2022 Paris Hoops Tournament and came away with a 5-3 record and the first place trophy. Despite beginning the weekend with two disappointing losses in games to determine bracket seeding, the Hawks showed their resilience and fought back, winning five out of their last six games, including their final four contests which earned them the championship. CHAAMP fell to the tournament host Paris Homeschool Warriors 52-43 in their second game of bracket play, but the tournament was double-elimination, and the Hawks never faltered for the remainder of the event.

Tigers get back on track, dominate Marshall, 44-28

After losing just their second district game in three seasons last Friday, the Mount Pleasant Tigers got back to the grind and locked down their defense to defeat Marshall on Tuesday. The Tigers held the Mavericks to just 39% from the floor and forced 26 turnovers. Marshall scored less than 10 points in three out of four quarters as the Tiger defense kept them at bay all night.

Lady Tigers remain undefeated in District, defeat Marshall

Mount Pleasant wasted no time in taking down Marshall who was also undefeated entering Tuesday night’s game. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 16-8 lead after one quarter and pushed that lead to 26- 10 at halftime. The third quarter was more of the same with the lead blossoming to 47-21 before a late push by the Mavericks fell short.
