The Chapel Hill Athletic Department and CHISD are proud to announce the hiring of Garry Davison as the Assistant Athletic Director and Head Girls Basketball coach for the Lady Devils. “I am very excited to be the new girls basketball coach at Chapel Hill,” exclaimed Davison.

Area volleyball ‘sets’ up for new year

Area volleyball teams hit the court for the first time Monday as two-a-day practices kicked off across the state. Harts Bluff kicked off practices under Coach Sivi Cheek for the first time as a full member of a UIL district. Meanwhile, three area programs started their fall seasons under new leadership -- Coach Kristy Ciuba at Mount Pleasant, Coach Bretley Beasley at Chapel Hill and Coach Sara Beth Upchurch at Rivercrest. After upcoming scrimmages, the area volleyball slate kicks off next week. Rivercrest opens against Chapel Hill, Mount Pleasant travels to Greenville, Harts Bluff opens at home against James Bowie, Paul Pewitt hosts Mount Vernon and CHAAMP will start the season against Harts Bluff.

Heating up: football practices begin

Football teams across the state kicked off their seasons with two-a-day practices starting Monday. Coach Joe Cluley’s Mount Pleasant Tigers, Coach Cedrick Dorsey’s Pewitt Brahmas and Coach Ty Huie’s Rivercrest Rebels all started what they hope are roads to playoff runs and districy championships.All three teams open their seasons Aug. 26 with Mount Pleasant hosting Pittsburg, Pewitt at Winnsboro and Rivercrest at Queen City.

Building pyramids: Harts Bluff cheer holds camp

The Harts Bluff cheerleading squad wrapped up NCA cheer camp this past week. The JV cheer squad received a Nationals bid and received their NFHS credentials. The team also received a technical excellence award, two blue superior ribbons, one excellent ribbon, the Herkie Team Award and a spirit stick and received an invite to the Citrus Bowl. Members Madison Whorton and Alex Ochoa were both named to the All-American NCA Cheer Team. The squad is coached by Christy Adair and Keilani Cheek.

Chism named MPHS assistant athletic director

Mount Pleasant ISD recently named head boys basketball coach Joey Chism as the district’s assistant athletic director. Athletic Director Joe Cluley said Coach Chism has helped make his transition to Mount Pleasant an easy one.

HB hosts volleyball, basketball camps

Harts Bluff held volleyball and girls and boys basketball camps last week. Athletic Director Harland Johns said attendance increased each day of the camp, with 150 kids from around the area taking part. Coach Johns and coaches Bradley Lambeth, Kate Lambeth, Todd Daniel and Thomas Crane helped run the basketball camps while Coach Sivi Cheek, Nikki Martin and members of the Lady Bulldogs helped run the volleyball camp. The camps were sponsored by Lighthouse Realty.

#Family matters: MP hosts annual football camp

Approximately 80 players took part in the annual Mount Pleasant football camp. Coaches for the camp, which ran through Wednesday afternoon, were MPHS athletic director Joe Cluley, his staff and a number of Tiger football players. Campers ranged in age from incoming kindergarteners through incoming eighth graders and learned the basics of offense and defense.
