A Homecoming Queen was crowned Friday at The Swamp and, if Rivercrest crowned a Homecoming King, they could have found a number of candidates after the Rebels’ game against Como-Pickton. Thanks to strong efforts on both sides of the ball, the Rebels served as their own Homecoming Kings Friday after rolling to a win over the Eagles, 27-6.

The Mount Pleasant Tigers have been focused on getting one percent better every day under Head Coach Joe Cluley. This is the week the improvement begins to count the most.

The Mount Pleasant Junior High 7th grade “A” team won the Mount Vernon Junior High Volleyball tournament on Saturday, September 17. The Lady Tigers defeated Mount Vernon and Pittsburg. They were down 0-9 in the last set vs. Pittsburg, but managed to fight their way back from that deficit to claim the championship. They are currently 4-3 for the season.

A team will use its final games before district to get prepared for when the records basically reset to 0-0. Teams hope to pick up a win and momentum in those final matchups.

On Sept. 14, in their final game before their bye week, the Mount Pleasant JV football team welcomed Frisco Emerson to Sam Parker Field.

It hasn’t been the start to the year the Chapel Hill Lady Devils have hoped for, but their most recent match provided cause for optimism going into Friday’s district opener. The Lady Devils traveled to Clarksville Tuesday night and rolled to a 3-0 win over the Lady Tigers (2514, 25-6, 25-14).

The records going into Friday night have been thrown out for Mount Pleasant, Pewitt and Rivercrest. The Brahmas and Rebels kicked off district play Friday while the Tigers, observing their bye week this week, will kick off the slate next week at home.

It was a defensive slugfest in one half, an offensive fireworks show in the second. One team looking for its first win after facing what’s been a gauntlet in the early season run, one team playing with heavy hearts for injured teammate Cooper Reid.

Every team wants to win a Homecoming game. The Rivercrest Rebels wanted to pick up a big win for Homecoming this past Friday – at Chisum’s Homecoming.
