Upward Bound is a program designed to provide high school students with opportunities to develop skills needed to achieve personal, academic, and career goals. Its overall goal is to help students through high school and into college.

Outdoors Writer Some of the top whitetail bucks taken last season in the Post Oak Savannah (Region 5), Pineywoods (Region 6) and Coastal Prairies (Region 7) will be on display at the Texas Big Game Awards Regional Sportsman’s Celebration banquet set for June 17 at the Ice House on Main in Bryan.

Sunfish, also called “bream,” like to spawn in areas with sand or gravel bottoms, usually in close proximity to some form of cover. Outdoors Writer LAKE KURTH — It was a beautiful sight, one that any pan fisherman would truly appreciate. Bream beds — close to two dozen of them — were stacked side-by-side on a tiny point shrouded in about three feet of water almost clear as vodka.

MPHS Tiger Doll Officers and Sergeants

The 2023-2024 Tiger Doll Officers and Sergeants attended an American Dance/Drill Team officer camp from June 4-7 at the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront hotel. They participated in numerous dance and leadership sessions, created their own choreography, and planned team events for the upcoming year.

The Rivercrest softball program finished second in their district behind a team that ended up second in the state and made another strong playoff run this past season.

While the final outcome for the season wasn’t what was hoped for a younger Mount Pleasant baseball team, several players impressed the district’s coaches as the Tigers filled six slots on this season’s 15-5A All-District Team.

MPHS fishing team competes at THSBA state

Mount Pleasant High School junior Clayton Miller and sophomore Rolston Morton fished for MPHS in the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) state tournament at the Sam Rayburn Reservoir on May 20 and 21.
