A cornered or wounded entity is at its most dangerous. Backed against a wall with playoff chances on the line, the Pewitt Brahmas battled out of that corner and have now given themselves a shot at a playoff spot.

It most certainly has not been the season the Pewitt Brahmas expected on the gridiron. A team that is used to creating its own history now must work to finish strong to prevent setting a record it does not want.

The Rivercrest Rebels are in the midst of a “Choose Your Own Adventure” type finish to the season going into their final two games. A win Friday solidifies a playoff spot.

The Rivercrest Lady Rebels had a chance to complete a huge goal Friday when they hosted Detroit with a district title on the line. The gym was packed and the team came out looking to clinch the title against the team they’d split with this season.

A cross-country tradition is steadily building in this area. After the recent 2A regional meet at Lynn Creek Park over the weekend, that tradition grows as two Harts Bluff runners will advance to the state cross country championships.

The road to the playoffs for the Mount Pleasant Tigers got a bit rockier Friday. The Tigers fell on the road at Whitehouse, 37-14, meaning the Tigers likely need to win their final two games – Friday at home against Pine Tree and next week on the road against Hallsvville – and need some outside help to snag a playoff spot.

In their first UIL season, the Harts Bluff Lady Bulldogs got their first district sweep Friday. Traveling to Clarksville, the Lady Bulldogs pulled off the season sweep over the Lady Tigers with a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-8, 25-13).

For the first time in two years, the UIL volleyball playoffs will include the Chapel Hill Lady Devils. Thanks to Quitman’s loss to Harmony, the Lady Devils clinched the fourth place playoff spot Tuesday despite losing to Mount Vernon.

Tuesday was the final chapter of the Rivercrest-Harts Bluff volleyball matchup for 2022. The Lady Rebels were looking to set up a huge district battle on Friday while Harts Bluff was looking to pull off the upset.

With their backs against the wall and facing a must-win situation on the road Tuesday at third place Hooks, the Pewitt Lady Brahmas proved they can’t be counted out yet. Needing a win to stay in the playoff hunt, the Lady Brahmas handled early adversity and an energized Hooks crowd to hold off the Lady Hornets, 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-15, 15-8) and pull back into a fourth place tie with one game left on the schedule.
