The Chapel Hill Devils Varsity Cheer Team took 6th place at the 3A D2 UIL State competition held in Fort Worth on Thursday, January 12th. This group is made up of young athletes that have worked hard to prepare for competition while also cheering on all of the Chapel Hill athletes. Nine of the seventeen cheerleaders were new to the varsity cheer program this year, and the team added three flag girls for competition. The cheer team and coaches were excited to make Finals (top 20) out of 46 teams in their division. They then performed in Finals and ended up placing 6th! The Chapel Hill Community is so proud of them for this accomplishment. Their hard work and dedication have paid off.

Hawks start new year with win

After an extended holiday break, the CHAAMP Hawks Men’s Varsity basketball squad returned to action Tuesday night, taking on district rival Paris Homeschool on the road. The Hawks were a bit rusty in their first action of 2023, overcoming a 39% shooting night to defeat the Warriors 39-34.

Lady Rebels roll past JB; turnovers stifle Rebels in loss to Pirates

The Rivercrest Lady Rebels were looking to maintain their position at the top of the district while the Rebel boys hoped to kick off district with a win as both teams hosted James Bowie Friday. In the girls’ matchup, the Lady Rebels used big runs in the second and fourth quarters to roll past the Lady Pirates, 71-24.

Chapel Hill’s state-ranked Red Devils and Lady Devils went to Mineola Friday with goals in mind. For the Lady Devils, they hoped to get the bad taste of their loss to Winnsboro out of their mouths and kickstart a new winning streak. For the Red Devils, they wanted to continue their torrid start to the season by defeating the team that edged them for the district title last season in a district playoff.

Red Devil soccer goes 1-0-2 at Tatum Invitational

After getting off to a 1-2-2 start to their year, the Chapel Hill Red Devil soccer team bounced back with a strong performance at the Tatum Invitational over the weekend. The Red Devils finished their time in Tatum going 1-0-2 in their trio of games.

Ranked Lady Tigers survive scare against Longview

When a team is undefeated, carrying a ranking next to their name, they are going to get everyone’s best shot. This is especially true when the opponent has lost four straight to said ranked team and carries its own proud set of traditions.

Eighth-ranked Tigers win at Longview

The eighth-ranked Mount Pleasant Tigers hit the road, traveling to Lobo Coliseum to take on a strong Longview squad. The Lobos, who finished 15-15 last season, were off to a hot start to the season, coming into Friday’s game at 183. However, two of their losses came in district play.

Lady Devils fall in state-ranked showdown; Devils win over Winnsboro

Two of the stronger girls’ programs in East Texas linked up Tuesday in a ranked vs. ranked matchup as the 11th-ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils took on the 18th-ranked Winnsboro Lady Raiders in front of a packed house at Chapel Hill. Going into the night, the two teams had played 17 times since 2012, with Winnsboro holding a 9-8 edge. At one point in the streak, Chapel Hill had won six consecutive meetings, but none since 2020. After that Lady Devil streak, Winnsboro responded with four consecutive wins in the rivalry.

Lady Rebels remain at top of district after win at Maud

A year after losing a district playoff for second place, the Rivercrest Lady Rebels are off to a fast start in the district slate. Rivercrest defeated the team who beat them in the district playoff last year, Detroit, to start the year and continued the slate on the road at Maud Tuesday evening.
