MPHS Bass Fishing Team competes on Lake Fork

The Mount Pleasant High School Bass Fishing Team opened their season at the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) tournament on Lake Fork on Saturday, September 30. The team of Clayton Miller and Rolston Morton placed 57th out of 151 boats with five fish weighing 3.41 lbs.

Three Dragon scoring runs spoil Pewitt’s Homecoming

The Pewitt Brahmas have been a team in search of consistency – showing flashes of what could be, but running into a wall of late when it comes to gaining and maintaining momentum. Friday, it was the Redwater Dragons who maintained momentum, spoiling Pewitt’s Homecoming by picking up a 56-30 win.

CHAAMP JV wins NTAA JV Volleyball Tournament

CHAAMP (Christian Homeschool Athletics Association Mt. Pleasant) junior varsity volleyball team won the 2023 NTAA Tournament at La Tourneau University in Longview, Texas. The two-day tournament began Friday with two pools of six teams each. The pools played next to each other in the university’s second gym with two courts. Pool play consisted of two games to 25 with bracket seeding determined by overall record. Due to time constraints at the end of Friday, the last pool games were reduced to 15 points each.

Mount Pleasant falls at Texas High, meet Marshall Friday

Over at least the past two to three decades, Texas High has been considered one of the measuring sticks in East Texas 5A football. This season has been no different, with the Tigers of Texarkana rolling on their way to a top five ranking in the state.

HB volleyball wins thrilling five-set match over Rivercrest

The first game of district play in District 17-2A pitted two teams with similar stories against each other. The Harts Bluff Lady Bulldogs and Rivercrest Lady Rebels finished third and second, respectively in district play last season. Both teams fell to ranked foes in the area round -- Harts Bluff against Beckville and Rivercrest against San Augustine. Both teams brought back most of their squad from those playoff runs.

MPISD secures sports officiating class

As has been previously reported, TASO was instrumental in securing approval from the Texas Education Agency for a credited high school class for Team Sports officiating. While the Spring Branch ISD Future Officials Academy, led by former TASO member Michael Dorantes, has been the trailblazer in high school officiating classes, many other schools are seeing these classes as a contribution to the Texas shortage of sports officials.

Last Friday, representatives from MPHS cheerleading, Tiger Dolls, Tiger football and Lady Tiger Volleyball presented “Tigers on Tour,” a traveling pep rally that visited our littlest Tigers at Child Development Center, E.C. Brice, Frances Corprew, Vivian Fowler, and Annie Sims Elementary Schools.

CHAAMP (Christian Homeschool Athletics Association Mt. Pleasant) varsity volleyball team played the Harts Bluff on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Both teams took to the court to the applause of fans and chants of both the Bulldog and Hawks cheer squads. But after both teams settled into their positions, and the Liberos E. Hulen and P. Solorio subbed on—before the ball ever crossed the net—smiles and friendly calls could be seen and heard.
