Former Mount Pleasant High School and current Southern Methodist University cheerleader Aunesti Brannon was recently named SMU’s Cheerleader of the Week. Brannon was lauded for her inner and outer strength and beauty and for giving her all “100 percent of the time.

Rivercrest’s Mankins named Academic All-State

Rivercrest volleyball player Kori Mankins was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) academic all-state teams, announced recently. Mankins was named to the second team, one of four levels of the Academic All-State team.

Big plays doom Tigers’ season, fall in first round of playoffs

The Mount Pleasant Tigers’ season ended last Friday at the hands of A&M Consolidated, 55-21, as Consolidated used chunk plays to score quick and bury the Tigers early. The College Station Tigers jumped out to a 28-0 lead before Mount Pleasant responded with a couple of scores of their own.

Season ends for Pewitt Brahmas

Almost ironically, it was the run and run defense that ended Pewitt’s 36th Running of the Bulls. Paced by the efforts of Kevin Pierce, the Troup Tigers broke open a close game in the second half to eliminate the Brahmas, 52-34.

Lady Devils honored by district coaches

The season may have ended much earlier than Chapel Hill volleyball fans would have liked but a number of Lady Devils were honored with the release of the 13-3A All-District volleyball team. Junior libero Hannah Rhea was named the district’s Co-Defensive MVP.
