Kincade Henry, our hometown cowboy, competed at the Las Vegas NFR on December 1 through December 10, 2022. While competing he placed first in two rounds and received two gold belt buckles. He also placed second twice and sixth once. He is grateful beyond means with all of the support and encouragement that he has received from his friends, family, and community.

Mount Pleasant High School athlete named to 5A Academic All-State volleyball team

Mount Pleasant High School senior, Samantha McClenan, has been named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State Volleyball team. To be nominated, student athletes must be graduating seniors, must have an overall average of 94 or above for grades 9-11, must be a varsity participant or member of the support staff of that sport in good standing, and must be of good moral character.

NTCC awarded $3M grant

Northeast Texas Community College recently learned that it is the recipient of a $3 million Title V grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Title V grants are highly competitive and NTCC was one of only 78 higher educational institutions to receive the award in 2022.

There are 134 inmates in jail with 114 males and 20 females. Since 12/12/2022 the following have been booked into the jail: • ColtonFletcher,32of Hughes Springs, was arrested on a Morris County warrant for Indecency with a Child Sexual contact.

Harts Bluff choirs present “The Sounds of the Season”

All were entertained as The Choirs of Harts Bluff presented “The Sounds of the Season” in concert, Tuesday evening, December 6, 2022. Under the direction of Brittany Traylor, the Elementary Choir sang a variety of songs such as” White Christmas,” “Let It Snow,” and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” This was followed by the 5th and 6th grade choir performing their rendition of “There’s a New Kid in Town,” “ Holly Jolly Christmas,” and many more. The night ended with the Jr. High and High School Chorale performing a mixture of classics and modern holiday songs from “Sleigh Ride,” to “Carol of the Bells.” Numerous solos and duets were performed and directed by Amy Kessler.

MPISD staff receive surprise

Wednesday, December 7 was the annual “Ham Day” in MPISD where all staff members are traditionally gifted a Christmas ham. But this year, instead of ham, MPISD staff members received “bread” in the form of $500! Superintendent Judd Marshall, Deputy Superintendent Deb Malone, Director of Facilities Van Bowen, and members of the MPISD Board of Trustees were on hand all day Wednesday passing out Christmas greetings and the surprise.
