MPHS National Technical Honor Society holds induction

Fifty Mount Pleasant High School students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at a candlelight ceremony on November 17 in the MPHS cafeteria. To be a member of NTHS, a student must be enrolled in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) class, maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 5.1, be a member of a CTE organization (FBLA, HOSA, SkillsUSA, FFA, FCCLA, TPSA), complete service hours and maintain a clean discipline record. The 50 new members join the 46 returning senior members.

County reaches new agreement with city on fire service

In their meeting on November 15, Titus County Commissioners began by recognizing the 100th anniversary of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club. Judge Brian Lee read from an official proclamation noting, “The Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant is the oldest civic club in the county. The Rotary Club was founded on January 1, 1922… since then the club and its Rotarians have been committed to serving our community, nation, and our world. The foundation of the clubs’ activities is its five avenues of service, club, vocational, community, international, and youth service. The club has helped many young residents survive through its support of literary activities and other youth programs. The club and its foundation annually distribute financial grants to local organizations serving the health, humanitarian, and educational needs of the community, including Rotary internationals partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to eradicate Polio worldwide while demonstrating its belief in the Rotary International motto of service above self. The club and its foundation have provided innumerable other service projects that have benefited our community. The county of Titus and our residents are grateful for the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant 100 years of service and its Rotarians for their compassionate roles in building a strong community. Now, therefore, I Brian Lee Judge of Titus County herby do proclaim November 15 of 2022 the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant 100th anniversary day in this county of Titus.”

Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to Texas businesses and residents affected by severe storms and tornadoes that occurred Nov. 4, 2022, announced Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman of the U.S. Small Business Administration. SBA acted under its own authority to declare a disaster in response to a request SBA received from Gov. Greg Abbott on Nov. 15, 2022.
