Pleasant are partnering to put on a Winter Coat Drive. If you want to help by donating winter coats, hats, scarves, thermals and/or socks we would greatly appreciate your efforts. Mount Pleasant High School HOSA member advances to State

The Mount Pleasant High School chapter of HOSA: Future Health Professionals competed in the Area 3 Spring Leadership Conference on January 13-14 at Allen High School. The conference hosted approximately 1600 students who competed in over 50 events.

MPHS FFA member catches calf at Fort Worth Stock Show Calf Scramble

MPHS FFA sophomore Jonathan Dalby and junior Lakyn Fortenberry competed at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo on Saturday, January 28 in the Calf Scramble Performance. Dalby was able to catch and halter a calf and was awarded a certificate valued at $500. The certificate proceeds are used to purchase a heifer that the participants care for and prepare for exhibition at the Stock Show the following year. Those who complete the Calf Scramble Program may be eligible for scholarships based on the quality and content of monthly reports submitted to Calf Scramble Program sponsors, the effort devoted to caring for and exhibiting their heifer, and their final essay outlining their Calf Scramble experience. Since 1987, almost $3 million in scholarships has been awarded to 1,478 Calf Scramble participants.

MPHS Choir members advance to UIL State

Twenty-eight Mount Pleasant High School Choir members competed at the Regional UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at the Mount Pleasant High School Performing Arts Complex on Friday, February 3. Of those, eight earned first division ratings and seven MPHS soloists have advanced to the State contest. To qualify for the state solo and ensemble contest, a student must score a “1” on a Class 1 piece, the most difficult to memorize and perform.

Local youth scrambles to the win at Fort Worth Stock Show

Jonathan Dalby, a member of Mount Pleasant FFA, caught a calf during the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble January 28, earning a $500 purchase certificate for a show heifer and the chance for up to $16,000 in scholarship awards. Dalby’s mother is Debbie Dalby of DeKalb. His award was sponsored by Bill and Pati Meadows.
