Mount Pleasant High School honors seniors entering the military

Mount Pleasant High School held a reception on Monday, May 8th in the Tiger Den for ten seniors who have committed to entering the armed forces after graduation. Each senior was introduced by Mandy Jones, counselor for the Class of 2023, and presented a red, white and blue cord to wear at graduation.

HB, CH bond initiatives fail to pass; Winfield voters approve local sales and use tax reauthorization

Voters around the area made their voices heard on several ballot items over the weekend as local elections were held Saturday. Citizens voted on bond elections at Harts Bluff ISD and Chapel Hill ISD and in an election in Winfield for the reauthorization of local sales and use tax at the rate of ¼ of one percent to provide revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets.

City Council approves appointments to Housing Authority; amends several ordinances

On May 2, Mount Pleasant City Council held their regular meeting. In this meeting, they discussed the following agenda items. Council first discussed the approval of a pay request and change order from Watson Commercial Construction, LTD for work on the Community Center. This pay request is number 15R, certified in the amount of $186,018.30. It has the typical general condition items completed through this period. The construction team has had some delays due to the rain and supply chain issues from the local plants getting materials to the site. Approximately $89,400 is for the concrete and the architectural Millwork is complete. The council approved this pay request for Watson Commercial Construction.

Chapel Hill senior Luke Nichols places amongst the best in the Nation

places amongst the best in the Nation This past weekend the Chapel Hill Speech and Debate team traveled to Northwestern University to take part in the prestigious Extemporaneous speaking Tournament of Champions. The Tournament of Champions is an extremely difficult tournament to qualify for and is filled with the best competition from across the nation.

FM 2148 closed under I-30 bridge • SH 8 – At Sulphur River, replacing bridges • SH 98 – At Anderson Creek, bridge replacement.

MPHS Arts Students earn state medals

Four Mount Pleasant High School students advanced to the state level of the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) with three of those students earning state medals for their work. The VASE state competition was held at San Marcos Consolidated High School on April 29-30. Students from 29 regions in Texas compete for a chance to advance to the state VASE event. Of the over 31,000 entries at regionals, just 2,100 advance to the state level.
