Wallace gifted and talented recycled boat races

Middle School held their annual Gifted and Talented (GT) recycled boat races on Friday, May 12 atTown Lake in Mount Pleasant. Students in the 5th grade GT program could use cardboard, duct tape, and plastic trash bags to construct their boats while 6th grade GT students were allowed to use plastic bottles, duct tape, clear tape, nylon string, and zip ties.

The Mount Pleasant community gathered to recognize seniors from both Chapel Hill and Mount Pleasant High Schools during a community baccalaureate service, held at Mount Pleasant’s First Baptist Church. Mount Pleasant valedictorian Ethan Harbour gave the invocation and Chapel Hill valedictorian Kendall Hensley delivered the benediction.

City announces summer change for trash pickup

Beginning June 1 through September 1, Republic Services’ residential trash collection schedule will start one hour earlier at 6 a.m. This change is to protect the health and safety of the essential employees performing this important work during the brutal heat of Texas summers. “Often these employees are working eight to nine hours in 100+ degree weather, and we are grateful for their continued service to our citizens,” city officials said. Please help them by ensuring that trash is out for collection the evening before or no later than 5:30 a.m. on designated collection days.

Pond Management Workshop to be held May 24

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office in Titus County will be hosting a Pond Management Workshop on Wednesday, May 24 at the Heritage Park Pavilion located at 1713 North Edwards in Mount Pleasant. Registration and the meal will begin at 5:15 PM with the educational program beginning at 5:30 PM and concluding at 7:30 PM. The speaker will be Garrett Stamport, a Fisheries Program Specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Topics will include learning how to properly stock ponds, maintaining water quality and aquatic vegetation identification. The cost to register and attend is $20 and can be paid at the time of the program on May 24. In the event of bad weather, the program will be moved to the Titus County Extension Office.
