Tigers demolish Longview, 54-37

Coming off a quadruple overtime loss last Friday, the Mount Pleasant Tigers were eager to get back on the court and make up for missed opportunities. After a two-point victory over the Lobos in Longview before Christmas, a highly anticipated rematch saw the Tigers put the game away early and quelch any thoughts of who might be the best team on the floor.

MPHS Swim Team advances eight to Regionals

The Mount Pleasant Tiger and Lady Tiger swim team recently competed in the district championship held at the Texas High Aquatic Center on January 22nd. Sophie Greco along with four relay teams advanced to the regional swim meet to be held February 4-5 in Lewisville. Medals were awarded for the top three finishers in each event and the top six finishers advanced to the next round. Team points were also accumulated towards an overall district championship.

MPHS senior signs to play collegiate volleyball

Mount Pleasant High School senior, Ladi’roliairty Guereca, known to most as Ladi, signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Southwestern Christian College where she will be an outside hitter and middle blocker for the Lady Rams. Located in Terrell, TX, SwCC participates in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 5 as a Division I program with fellow junior colleges Cisco, Hill, Ranger, Temple, North Central Texas, Vernon, Mountain View, and Dallas College—Richland.

Rivercrest recognizes seniors Tuesday night

The Rivercrest Rebels and Lady Rebels honored their seniors during Tuesday’s games against James Bowie.Recognized were Lady Rebel Lauren Hardman, Rebels Kirk Killian, Keaton Sears, Darrion Ricks and Kamryn English and Rebel basketball manager Donnie Barganski. CHAAMP triumphs over rival Paris Homeschool

The CHAAMP Hawks Varsity boys won their seventh straight game Tuesday night, defeating the rival homeschool squad Paris Warriors. Playing in their home gym in Winfield, the Hawks came away victorious in a low-scoring contest, 42-33. CHAAMP led 16-9 after one quarter, but the Warriors fought hard to stay in the game, only once falling behind by double digits. The contest was closer than the final score indicated, as the Warriors elected to begin fouling to stop the clock late, and the Hawks hit their free throws to pull away.

MPISD announces the 2022 Spring Athletic Hall of Fame honorees: Cathi Brown, James Buchanan, Joey Chism, Laniedra Moore, and Ashley Self. Each inductee will be recognized prior to the Varsity home basketball game against Marshall on Friday, February 4 starting at approximately 7:00 p.m.

With the district race heating up, the Rivercrest Rebels and Lady Rebels played a home makeup game against McLeod and a makeup game on the road at Clarksville looking to stay near the top of the standings.

Last second heave defeats Tigers in 4OT, 63-61

The Mount Pleasant Tigers did everything they could to bring down #20 Hallsville on the road Friday night, including taking the game to quadruple overtime. With head coach Joey Chism unable to attend the game for personal reasons, the Tigers fought to the bitter end to try to stand alone atop the district standings, but Hallsville handed out the final dagger to defeat the Tigers for just the second time in the past eight seasons.
