The Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers had a season to forget but finished Friday with a victory over district rival Pine Tree. Coming into the game, the Lady Tigers were still looking for their first win of the season even though they were starting to hit their stride after a quarantine-riddled start to the year.
The Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers played two games over Thanksgiving Break traveling to Tatum last Tuesday and hosting Tyler Legacy on Saturday. The Lady Tigers picked up a win and a loss and moved their overall record to 2-2.
Zaveion Okoh had a career day on Friday posting a team-high 27 points and connecting on five three-pointers in a win over the Lufkin Panthers at the Jasper Venture Games at Whitehouse. He also posted 7 rebounds and six steals. Through two games, Okoh has led the Tigers in scoring averaging 25 points per game in the process. With the wins, the Tigers moved up one spot in the state rankings to #14.
The Chapel Hill Lady Devils played back to back games this week and pulled out win number two in as many days. This past Tuesday Chapel Hill hosted Commerce, a previous district foe. The Lady Devils patented hard nose defense was in full display. The first quarter saw the Lady Devils clamp down on Commerce’s double post offense. Commerce was successful with the first lob attempt, but that was the last one as Chapel Hill saw steal after steal after steal. The Lady Devils won the first quarter 22-6 to race out front. The second quarter saw much of the same as the Lady Devils full court defense firing on all cylinders. Chapel Hill won the second quarter as well 15-5 to make the half-time score 37-11.
The Chapel Hill Lady Devils won this past Monday while traveling to New Boston. The Lady Devils got off to an unusual slow start at New Boston. The defense wasn’t quite there and missing some normal shots for them. New Boston won the first quarter 13-19 to take the lead, but that would soon come to a swift end. The Chapel Hill defense clamped down and the offense started to click and the next thing you know it was all Lady Devils. Chapel Hill didn’t give up a basket to New Boston and all the Lady Lions could muster were three three throws in the second quarter as Chapel Hill won the quarter 21-3 and took the lead 34-22 at half-time.
