The Chapel Hill Lady Devils knew that they had a test in their first playoff volleyball game in two years, taking on an Atlanta team that reached the regional tournament last season. Atlanta had won 23 games going into the playoffs, including 15 in a row.

The CHAAMP Hawks Varsity Men’s basketball squad started their season with a big win Tuesday, blowing out the Tyler Classical Academy Eagles 93-12. The Hawks burst out of the gate to a 24-1 lead after the first quarter, and made it 44-8 by the time halftime arrived. CHAAMP added a 30 point third quarter on their way to an 81 point victory.

The record may not be what fans and observers are accustomed to, but the outcome is. The Pewitt Brahmas, going through one of the roughest seasons in school history, won their final two games and got the outcomes they needed in order to keep the “Running of the Bulls” going into the playoffs.

It wasn’t the senior night Rivercrest’s team, coaches and fans were hoping for. The Rebels started strong in their third place matchup against Wolfe City Thursday, but penalties and turnovers served as Rivercrest’s Achilles heel as the Wolves clinched third place in district with a 32-20 win over the Rebels.

The Rivercrest Rebels followed their team motto this season –”Work Hard. Be Consistent.” – and it got them a return to the UIL playoffs.

The only consistent thing in Friday’s Mount Pleasant- Pine Tree game was the rain. Neither the Tigers nor the Pirates could get much consistency going in the sloppy conditions.

All season, the Pewitt Lady Brahmas had to battle with teams who held a height advantage over them. Unfortunately, in their district playoff at Hooks against Queen City, that height disadvantage proved to be tough to overcome one more time.

In a season already filled with firsts for Harts Bluff Early College High School, the Lady Bulldog volleyball team had another one to add to a rapidly growing list. Monday night, the Lady Bulldogs played in the school’s first ever playoff game, taking on Ore City in the bi-district round at Pittsburg’s Jack Arnwine Gymnasium.
