Mt.Vernon softball starts season

The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers kicked off their 2025 softball season on Monday with a home field scrimmage against the DeKalb Lady Bears.The Lady Tigers went four rounds deep in the playoffs last season and look primed to make a deep run into the postseason again in 2025.
In 1994, Bryan Kerchal became first and only amateur angler to win the Bassmaster Classic. Sadly, his promising career came to a tragic ending 4 1/2 months later when he was killed in an airplane crash while traveling home after a sponsorship engagement. He was only 23. We’re at the forefront of another season in big league bass fishing and will soon be knocking at the door of the 2025 Bassmaster Classic, this one set for March 21-23 at Texas’ Lake Ray Roberts near Denton.

There’s some big bass news from Richland Chambers Reservoir…. On Jan. 27, 18-year-old Dylan Sorrells of Dallas caught a 13.64 largemouth bass from the 41,000acre reservoir near Corsicana and subsequently put the fish on loan to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

MPHS UIL hosts Winter Tiger Classic

The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Academic team continued its season on Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25, hosting the Winter Tiger Classic on the MPHS campus. The annual event is a fund raiser for the MPHS Academic teams and helps to fund their travel to events throughout the year.

MPJH Cheerleaders place at NCA National competition

The Mount Pleasant Junior High School Cheerleaders participated in their final competition of the year at NCA Nationals in Dallas on January 24-26. MPJH Cheer competed in the Game Day Junior High/Middle School – Large division. They scored an 87.85 earning them 5th place in their division, just .

Mount Pleasant High School Tiger Dolls compete in Argyle

The Mount Pleasant High School Tiger Dolls continued competition season at the Showtime International Metroplex Showcase at Argyle High School on Saturday, February 1. The Tiger Dolls competed in the Super category in team and officers and had individuals compete with solos and a small ensemble.

Harts Bluff 8th grade girls win

The Harts Bluff 8th grade girls basketball team collected a 30-14 win over Clarksville back on Thursday, Jan. 23.Makayla Esparza led Harts Bluff with 11 points followed by Lankston Holderness 6, Addi Fry 5 and Kinley Hatfield, Kinsley Marshall, Claire Scoggons and Arianna Ramirez each with 2 points.
