Northeast Texas Community College started the second round of conference on Saturday, April 3 with a two-game series with Paris Junior College. After PJC defeated the Eagles in game one 19-1, NTCC bounced back for a 15-7 win in game two.
The Mount Pleasant boys and girls track teams wrapped up their regular season last Thursday with the final day of the two-day district meet. The Tigers and Lady Tigers had ten total athletes qualify for the area meet next week by finishing in the top four in their respective events. The boys team finished just short of a district championship by a slim four points, posting a team total of 119. Pine Tree finished just ahead of the Tigers with 121 points and Longview was crowned district champs with 123 points.
Northeast Texas Community College Baseball took on Murray State College in single game on Tuesday and took down Murray State 3-2.
The Chapel Hill Tennis team advanced two doubles teams to the Regional rounds this past week. In the boys division the doubles team of Vincent Rodriguez and Carter Nicholson won the district tournament. In the mixed doubles division the team of Drew Hughes and Kinly Posey also won the district championship and will advance to Regionals. The Chapel Hill Tennis team finished third overall as a team in the district meet.
Senior Ryan Sharp has been a fixture at the state swim meets the past couple of years and this year his hard work finally paid off. Sharp’s times in the 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly ranked him among the top swimmers in the state in Class 5A as he was placed on the 2nd Team All-State. Both times were posted by Sharp at the regional meet where he set a 52.84 mark in the backstroke and a 51.31 mark in the butterfly. Those times were good for 14th and 12th best respectively in the state. At the state meet held recently in San Antonio, Sharp finished 13th in the backstroke and 14th in the butterfly. COURTESY PHOTO
