Federal red snapper season closes Sept. 1

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will close the private recreational angler red snapper season in federal waters at 11:59 p.m. Sept. 1. After the closing date, anglers may continue to harvest up to four red snapper per day with a 15-inch minimum length limit from Texas state waters.

Abbott announces over $2.7 million in career training grants to Northeast Texas schools

Governor Greg Abbott today announced 11 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants totaling more than $2.7 million to 11 schools in Northeast Texas to support career and technical education (CTE) training programs. Presented by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), these grants will help schools purchase and install equipment to initially train more than 1,340 students for high-demand occupations in healthcare, automotive services, welding, engineering, construction management, culinary arts, public relations, and more.

Longtime owner of The Naples Monitor dies at 85

Morris Garland Craig, a name synonymous with The Naples Monitor newspaper for 67 years, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023, at his home in Naples at the age of 85. Craig was born December 24, 1937, in Douglassville, Texas, to Hardman Craig and Dovie Lee Kennedy Craig.
