Mount Pleasant native stationed at Fort Bragg dead in car crash

Sgt. Triston Amarion Pippins of Mount Pleasant passed away in a car accident in North Carolina on Jan. 4. A paratrooper for the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Bragg, the 22-year-old Pippins was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division as a parachute rigger in 2022.

Titus Regional Medical Center’s Board met on Jan. 8 to consider selling the hospital, which has been in discussion for approximately two years. This specific agenda item brought in a crowd, filling the conference room with more than 100 people, with many standing in the back of the room.

On Jan. 7, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department responded to a fire at 16th Street Hamburger Co. located at 1416 North Edwards Avenue. The restaurant suffered significant damage on the exterior walls on the north and west sides, as well as to the roof and the interior of the building.
