On Jan. 7, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department responded to a fire at 16th Street Hamburger Co. located at 1416 North Edwards Avenue. The restaurant suffered significant damage on the exterior walls on the north and west sides, as well as to the roof and the interior of the building.

It is never too early to ring in the new year, as proved by the Mount Pleasant Public Library. On Dec. 31, the library hosted a “Noon” Year’s Eve event for those with young children to celebrate a countdown to 2026, without having to stay up until midnight.
