First responders celebrated during National EMS Week

For 49 years, Titus Regional EMS has served locals, operating ambulances around the clock to respond to accidents, fires, and countless other emergency situations. May 15-21 is National EMS Week, a time to honor these professionals and their sacrifices for the wellbeing of community members.

Fugitive caught by TCSO

Titus County Sheriff ’s Office has now apprehended fugitive Danny Dwayne Roach, who was wanted for a motion to revoke probation for the offense of stalking, as well as online sexual solicitation of a minor. Roach, formerly of Titus County, is 46 years old and is known to work in residential and commercial construction.

NTCC student wins prestigious Jack Kent Cooke transfer scholarship

Aaliyah Merced Avellaneda, a May 2022 graduate from NTCC, is one of 100 recipients of the 2022 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s prestigious Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This highly competitive national scholarship will provide Avellaneda with up to $55,000 a year for a maximum of three years to complete her bachelor’s degree.

MPHS art student medals at state VASE competition

MPHS sophomore, Stephanie Hernandez, medaled at the recent State Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) held at San Marcos Consolidated High School on April 29-30. Her piece, Flower Child, received a rating of IV, Exemplary, earning her a state medal. Nineteen students from our region qualified for state with eight of those being MPHS students. Hernandez is one of only three students from our region to earn a state medal.

P.E. Wallace Middle School competes at UIL meet

MPHS seniors chosen for prestigious scholarship

Mount Pleasant High School seniors Nevaeh Bardwell and Connelly Cowan have both been chosen as University of Texas Impact Scholars. Each was surprised with the news at school, one week apart. The most surprising part was that neither applied for the scholarship as students are chosen from the entire applicant pool. Of the over 60,000 applications reviewed, only 80 were selected to receive Impact Scholarships.
