The combined Classes of 2022 from Mount Pleasant and Chapel Hill High Schools were honored at the Mount Pleasant Community Baccalaureate Service on Wednesday, May 18 at First Baptist Church. Mount Pleasant High School Valedictorian, Connelly Cowan, offered an opening prayer for the graduates while MPISD Superintendent, Judd Marshall, and CHISD Superintendent, Daniel Pritchett, welcomed the guests and congratulated the seniors on their accomplishments, challenging each of them to use their talents and gifts to make the world a better place through loving others.

Local dog raises litter of kittens as his own

According to the heartwarming story, a rescue Lab-mix dog named Apollo took a litter of six abandoned kittens under his wing after being fostered and adopted himself earlier this year. The story goes that Regina, a kind member of the public, found a box of newborn kittens by the side of the road on April 1, 2022 and contacted Kitty Cove Cat Rescue in Mount Pleasant Texas to find a foster for them.

Early runoff voting ends Friday

Early voting in the May 24 primary runoff elections ends Friday, May 20. Under state law, voters who cast ballots in either party’s primary election must vote only in the same party’s runoff election. Voters who did not cast ballots in the primary may vote in either party’s runoff election.

We have all heard the old axiom about not judging a book by its cover. Last week, I saw a social media post about a book sale, and they were selling a variety of books for cheap, including some old Harlequin romance novels for pennies. It got me to thinking.

Cypress Basin Hospice offers Camp Brave Heart for grieving children

Since 2010, Camp Brave Heart has been helping children, ages 6 – 12, understand their grief and develop coping skills in managing the emotions and behaviors that come with the bereavement process. Over 400 children have attended our camps since its inception. After missing the last two years due to COVID, we are extremely happy to announce Camp Brave Heart will be returning this year! We look forward to helping children coping with grief express their emotions, work through their grief, and connect with other children going through a similar issue.

To celebrate this exciting occasion, they will be hosting a huge Retirement Sale starting on April 29th. Afterwards, the store will close for a brief period to remodel, reopening with longstanding, devoted employees Brittany, Victoria and Brandie at the helm.

Beef has been given a bad rap for years! However, recent studies show that eating lean beef as part of a heart healthy diet can improve cardiometabolic disease risk factor including high blood pressure, low HDL cholesterol and diabetes risk. May is the month to celebrate National Beef Month.

Arrests • There are 153 inmates in jail with 117 males and 36 females. Since 05/17/2022 the following have been booked into the jail, • Deven Rosser, 25 of Clarksville, was arrested for Aggravated Assault, Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon, Assault, a warrant for for Assault, and a Class C warrant.

Library receives funding for community outreach

The Institute of Museum and Library Services recently awarded funding through the Texas State Library and Archives Commission to the Mount Pleasant Public Library for their Community Advancement Packages Grants Program (LS-250239-OLS-21).
