East Texas Food Bank begins Summer Food Program

The East Texas Food Bank has kicked off the Summer Food Program at 27 East Texas locations so children will not go hungry during the summer break. “The Summer Food Program began in 2005 to fill the meal gap left when the school year ends and children lose access to free and reduced-price meals they depend on for nourishment,” said Dennis Cullinane, East Texas Food Bank CEO.

City leaders host 2nd Annual Decoration Day at Cortznes Cemetery

City of Mount Pleasant and community leaders hosted the Second Annual Decoration Day at Cortznes Cemetery on May 29. The ceremony, which offered a time to reflect on the memory of loved ones and affirm a commitment to life and living, provided the opportunity to unveil the new pavilion the City constructed so that funeral services could be held in comfort during inclement weather.

NTCC receives ALA COVID Relief Fund grant

The Northeast Texas Community College library was one of 77 libraries nationwide to be awarded an emergency relief grant from The American Library Association (ALA). The fund is providing $1.55 million in emergency relief grants to libraries that have experienced substantial economic hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic. Through the ALA COVID Library Relief Fund, NTCC will be awarded $20,000 to support library services and operations.

Locals join 11th annual Carry the Load walk

Carry the Load, a national non-profit honoring military, first responders, veterans, and their families, has come to Mount Pleasant again for their 11th annual awareness walk. The event began with a rally at the Mount Pleasant Civic Center at 10:30 a.m., and the four-mile walk to Forest Lawn Cemetery began at 12:30.
