The Titus County Extension Office has received numerous calls and reports of black shoots on trees in the area. The cause of these wilted and black shoots on trees is Fire blight, a bacterium that causes vascular wilt in many varieties of trees including apples, pears, ornamental pears such as Bradford pears and some members of the Rosaceae family. The symptoms of fire blight can be noticed very easily by the leaves that progressively turn brown and black leaving the appearance as if it has been scorched by fire.
The Mt. Pleasant Rodeo Association held the first-ever PRCA sanctioned rodeo at the Mt. Pleasant Rodeo Arena this weekend. Cowboys came from all over to compete in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, bull riding, and barrel racing events.
