MPHS senior earns Academic All-American award

Mount Pleasant High School senior, Anthony Orellana, has earned the National Speech and Debate Association’s Academic All-American award. Of the more than 141,000 student members of the Association, fewer than 1,000 students earn the Academic All-American Award every year. To date, only eleven team members from MPHS have ever earned this prestigious honor.

MPISD reduces tax rate for 2022-2023 school year

At their regular meeting Monday night, the MPISD Board of Trustees voted to reduce the current tax rate from $1.259 to $1.1592 for the coming year, the lowest tax rate in 30 years. The total tax rate, a reduction of $.0998, includes $.8622 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.297 for interest and sinking (I&S). M&O funds provide for the district’s day-to-day operations while the I&S provides funds for debt services. Superintendent Judd Marshall said, “We are proud to be able to adopt a tax rate that is the lowest we have had since the 1991-1992 school year. All property tax payers benefit from reduced tax rates so we are happy for them.”

MPISD employees earn scholarships for Texas A&M—Commerce Pride Pathway

Members of the Texas A&M—Commerce Pride Pathway program in MPISD learned Tuesday morning that they are receiving another scholarship that will pay for their classes this fall. Pride Pathway is a program at Texas A&M—Commerce that is helping current MPISD employees pursue their Bachelor’s degrees.

MPHS Theatre announces first production of the 2022-2023 season

The MPHS Rough Theatre Company presents Kim Merrill’s Finding Claire September 8, 13, and 15 in the Studio Theatre in the Mount Pleasant High School Performing Arts Center. The play begins at 6:30 p.m. and features Ashanti Presley as Rachel, Nayeli Rivera as Clair, Dani Palomo as Bridget, and Sadera Lampard as Lilly.

Titus County Sheriff’s Department makes arrests in copper thefts at Luminant

Approximately two months ago, Titus County Sheriff ’s Investigators received information of suspicious activities that were occurring on Luminant property around the Winfield South Mine near Winfield, TX. Employees had discovered that a perimeter fence had been cut and after repairing it numerous times, someone continued to cut the fence.

Chapel Hill Honors Seniors of Yesteryear

When we talk about seniors in the context of public school, we typically think of a 12th grader that is somewhere between preparing for that final step before the real world and ‘Ferris Bueller’. At Chapel Hill ISD, there is another group of Seniors that the school works very hard to stay connected with on a monthly basis. On the second Friday of each month at 12:00 in the Student Center at CHISD, senior citizens from around the community are invited to attend a luncheon.
