Brenda Garmon was named 2022 Citywide Employee of the Year during the Annual Employee Awards Celebration held December 16 at the Mount Pleasant Civic Center. “We are grateful to all of our employees and officers for their hard work and dedication,” said City Manager Ed Thatcher.

The beautiful home of Barbara P. Caldwell with its lovely Christmas decorations provided the perfect holiday ambience for The Euterpean Club of Mt. Pleasant to celebrate the Christmas Season. We arrived at 3:45 PM on December 15th to enjoy our program of music, “Holiday Cheer”.

Free GED and ESL classes at NTCC

The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College is accepting new and returning students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs should call to make an appointment for registration beginning January 2, 2023. While classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center ( formerly MPISD Administration Building) at 105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant. Please call 903-434-8341 for an appointment. In-person, remote, and online self-paced options will be available. There are 133 inmates in jail with 115 males and 18 females. Since 12/16/2022 the following have been booked into the jail: • Jennifer Shelby, 48 of Pittsburg, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

In roles that go far beyond Band-Aids and ice packs, school nurses serve as a hub for community health, providing health education, ensuring immunization compliance, performing health screenings, and coordinating special care for students with medical conditions and disabilities.

The Titus County Commissioners began their December 12 meeting by recognizing the retirement/ years of service for the county employees and elected officials. On December 30, 2022, they will have a publicized event that will be taking place at Laura’s Cheesecake.

Frigid temps coming to NE Texas

A drastic dip in the jet stream is set to bring the coldest temps in a very long time to about half of the United States, including us here in Northeast Texas. After a normal season high on Thursday, the artic air mass will move in dropping the temperature across the region down into single digits before Friday morning, with wind chill factors making the “feels like” temperatures below zero.

Providing security through blankets

Since late July 2022, Northeast Texas has been enriched by an organization that focuses on children who have endured severe sickness or some trying trauma. The national organization called Project Linus was begun in December 1995, after Karen Loucks was inspired to make blankets for her local children’s cancer center.
