NTCC’s Eagle flies high at Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention

The staff of NTCC’s student newspaper, The Eagle, attended the 2023 Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention last week and won a total of 23 awards, including a first place best of show award. Co-editor-in-chief Skylar Fondren received second place in the feature photography: on-site competition and also received the $2,000 Fred Stewart Community College Journalism scholarship. NTCC’s literary and art magazine, Lagniappe, also received a second place award for cover design and for overall design.

Cameron takes first place at District 4-H Contest

Titus County 4-H Member, Lilly Cameron, competed on Friday, March 24th in the District IV 4-H Educational Presentation Contest in Farmersville and was awarded first place with her presentation, “Honey Viscosity: Good to the Last Drop”.

There are 147 inmates in jail with 124 males and 23 females. Since 03/17/2023 the following have been booked into the jail: • MichaelL.Harris,27of Portland, OR., was arrested for Possession of Marijuana, and a Class C offense.

MPHS Tiger Expo

Mount Pleasant High School held its annual Tiger Expo on Thursday, March 23 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. for incoming freshmen. Teachers and students set up booths in the old gym for eighth-graders and their parents to preview elective options and talk to coaches, directors, and sponsors. The incoming freshmen then made their way into the main academic building where an advisor helped them choose their courses for the 2023-2024 school year.

Titus County Sheriff’s Office receives grant from The NRA Foundation

The NRA Foundation provides essential program funding through Friends of NRA fundraising to ensure the availability of quality training and educational opportunities nationwide. Each State Fund Committee recommends grant recipients for their own area every year. This year, the North Texas State Fund Committee recommended Titus County Sheriff ’s Office to be one of their NRA Foundation grant recipients.

MPHS students chosen for Rotary Youth Leadership Award

Mount Pleasant High School juniors Angelina Hernandez and Cecilia Phan were chosen to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) weekend camp after an application and interview process with local Rotarians. The camp was held February 24-26 at Clements Scout Camp in Athens, TX. Students from high schools in the 41 clubs in Rotary District 5830, which is made up of northeast Texas and part of Oklahoma, were invited to participate.

City approves pay request for work on Pilgrim’s Community Center

On March 21, 2023 Mount Pleasant City Council held a meeting. The council discussed considering awarding the Bid for the Pavement Rehabilitation Phase III Project. This is the annual Pavement Rehabilitation Project to keep up with the road maintenance. They have budgeted for about 750,000 dollars for this project each year. The low bidder was for 654,887.25 from Ancor Contracting. The council approved this bid.
