Racks, Daqz, and Axe makes it ‘full circle’

From humble beginnings in 2015 with a BBQ trailer, Mario and Rico Willis established Racks BBQ which has grown into a complete experience. The Willis family, including Rico and his wife Shannel and Mario has created a signature seasoning and BBQ sauce that has become a tradition at annual family gatherings and come to be known as “that slow smokin’ magic.”

Happy Birthday USA slated for July 1

The Happy Birthday USA Festival, the annual Independence Day celebration held by the Mount Pleasant - Titus County Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled to be held July 1 at Fair Park from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Oglesby named general manager

Miranda Oglesby has been named the general manager for the Mount Pleasant Tribune, The Pittsburg Gazette and The Daingerfield Steel-Country Bee. Oglesby joined the Mount Pleasant Tribune as a reporter and page designer in 2018, later becoming the paper’s managing editor in 2019.

Repairs continue after storm

Thursday night’s severe thunderstorm included damaging, high-speed winds and heavy rainfall, causing downed trees and power lines and left area homes and businesses without power for days. Governor Greg Abbott has amended the severe weather disaster declaration to include Titus County as of Monday, and linemen have been hard at work to restore power.

SWEPCO crews respond to major outage after storm

Emergency assessment and response began Friday by SWEPCO crews across the service area after powerful storms brought down trees in east Texas and into northwest Louisiana. As of 11 a.m., Friday, more than 237,000 customers were without power.

NTCC closed Monday for holiday

Northeast Texas Community College will be closed on Monday, June 19 in observation of the national Juneteenth holiday. We will resume regular business hours and summer classes will meet as usual on Tuesday, June 20th. Students can still login to online courses and register online anytime at myeagle.ntcc.edu. NTCC is currently enrolling for Summer II (begins July 10) and Fall 2023 (begins Aug. 28).
