Tigers named to All-District team

Returning to the playoffs for the first time in four years did not go unnoticed by the coaches of District 9-5A Div. II.

The district – soon to undergo several changes after the bi-annual UIL redistricting process – released the 2021 all-district team recently, with 20 Mount Pleasant Tigers honored by the district.

Tigers named to the first team offense were running back Ed Wilder, tight end Astin Ledbetter and wide receiver Miller McCrumby.

Named first team defense were defensive lineman Tre Emory and cornerback Devon Smith.

Named to the second team offense were linemen Ashton Simon and Inacio Hernandez, quarterback Keller Thompson and wide receiver Layne Pinckard.

Named to the second team defense were defensive end Barron Stephens, inside linebacker Nic Chappell, safety Anthony Jeffery and Thompson as a punter.

Honorable mention Tigers were Stephens, Derrick Marshall, Oscar Perez, Jacolby Russell, Johnny Smith, Tyson Minter, Zaid Canada. Braylon Jones and Sam Brown.

District champion Texas High took home three superlative awards, claiming District MVP (running back Braylon Stewart), Defensive MVP (lineman Derrick Brown) and Coach of the Year (Gerry Stanford). Second place Marshall also won three superlatives, claiming Offensive MVP (running back J.Q. Davis), Special Teams Player of the Year (kicker Buck Buchanan) and Defensive Newcomer of the Year (Javon Wilder). Whitehouse’s Josh Green was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year.

Mount Pleasant returned to the playoffs for the first time in four years, finishing third in the district.
