Tiger XC Continues Running Strong at Hallsville

The Mount Pleasant high school and junior high cross-country teams traveled to Hallsville last weekend in their third meet of the year. The varsity boys took third place with three top ten finishers and the JV girls took first place with four runners finishing in the top ten. The junior high boys competed well with one runner finishing in the top ten and junior high girls took third place with two top ten finishes.

Lee Davis once again led the way for Mount Pleasant on the varsity boys side, finishing 2nd overall with a time of 16:57.6, just ten seconds behind the winner. Geovanni Calderon finished 3rd at 17:14.7 and Gilberth Landaverde came across the line in 9th with a time of 17:51.5. Other finishers were Christopher Escobar in 22nd place at 18:20.3 and Enrique Marrufo in 23rd place at 18:30.3.

Lizbeth Alvarez took the best finish at 4th for the JV girls with a time of 15:23.4 followed closeley by 6th place finisher Briana Gonzales at 15:28. Marlyne Mendez and Karen Hernandez rounded out the top ten in 7th (15:38.4) and 10th (15:57.6) place respectively. Other finishers were Abigail Retana (12th, 16:02), Jennifer Luna (32nd, 17:18.1), Audrie Mendoza (60th, 18:43.6), and Atalee Gonzalez (74th, 19:47.4).

The junior girls saw Alexia Hawkins take the gold coming across the finish line in 1st place with a time of 14:16.2. Marybeth Snyder finished in 7th at 15:08.7 to help secure the third-place finish for the team. Other finishers were Chastlyn Gomez (30th, 16:14.7), Alexis Garcia (33rd, 16:25.9), Diana Ramirez (49th, 16:43.2), Ryleigh Mendez (69th, 17:34.3), Lakelah Neal (213th, 23:17.6), Natalie Almazan (214th, 23:26.3), and Esmeralda Dorantes (217th, 23:36.4).

Charlie Hernandez notched the best finish in the junior high boy’s division in 6th place with a time of 12:59.1. Conley Johnson finished in 25th 13:56.4 and Fransisco Serrano finished 26th at 14:00.1. Other finishers were Christopher Mendez (29th, 14:13.8), Isaac Hernandez (46th, 14:37.8), Jayden Diaz (50th, 14:39.7), Cesar Alvarez (60th, 14:53.3), Andrew Garrett (81st, 15:16.4), Rey Munoz (140th, 17:26.8), and Jaylen Garcia (162nd, 18:04.2).

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will run again this Friday at Pine Tree and the junior high teams will run on Saturday. Their next home meet will be the Titus County Fair Invitational held on Saturday, October 1 at Sam Parker Field.
