Tenaha’s annual Holiday Hoops Tournament usually boasts a strong field of historically successful smaller school girls and boys programs.

The 2022 version was no different and yet, had a distinct “devilish” flair at the end.

The Chapel Hill Red Devils and Lady Devils took part in this year’s tournament, with both teams advancing to the finals.

In the end, the Red Devils claimed the boys title and the Lady Devils finished second overall.

The Lady Devils rolled past Joaquin, 54-17, then beat Douglass, 48-39. In the semifinals, the Lady Devils won over 1A’s second-ranked Neches Lady Tigers, 49-40. Chapel Hill fell in the final to the host Tenaha Lady Tigers, ranked fifth in 2A, 39-31.

Mackenzie Espinosa and Katie Hart were both named to the all-tournament team.

The Red Devils started their tournament with a 7048 win over Sabine, followed by a 67-55 win over Shelbyville. Chapel Hill rolled past 2A’s fourth-ranked team, Flatonia, in the semifinals, 62-28. In the finals, the Devils defeated Jefferson, 63-41.

Braden Buchanan was named tournament MVP and Casey House was named to the all-tournament team.

The eighth-ranked Red Devils and Lady Devils returned to district play Tuesday night on the road at Winona. Chapel Hill will travel to Mount Vernon Friday.
