Rebel scoring runs lead to rout of Owls

For a few moments at the start of their game against Yantis, it could have been argued that the Rivercrest Rebels started their break a hair too early.

After an early time-out and some adjustments leading to more shots falling, it turned out to be a happy pre-holiday for the Runnin’ Rebels.

Rivercrest saw Yantis jump out to an 8-0 lead, but the Rebels warmed up on a cold day to answer with a 22-0 run and used several runs in the game to defeat the Owls, 77-40.

The Rebels ended the first half with a 15-3 run and outscored the game, but outmanned, seven-player Owl squad in the fourth quarter, 26-8.

Kamryn English and Derrion Ricks led the Rebels with 23 points each. English added six rebounds, four assists and three steals while Ricks picked up six rebounds and six steals. Kirk Killian added 20 points and two steals. Zane Dees added four points, seven rebounds and three assists. Tre Williams had seven assists and four boards and Keaton Sears added four assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Nikolas Johnson led Yantis with 28 points. Devin Lutz finished with six, Elgin Curry added four and Brayden Green notched two.

The Rebel JV defeated the Owls, 45-16. Dylan Earley led Rivercrest with nine points. Chance Duffer and JaQuan Brown both finished with eight and Antonio Mancilla put in five.

The Rebels took part in the Tenaha Holiday Hoops Tournament, along with fellow area squad Chapel HIll, this week
