The state-ranked Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers kicked off district play the right way last week with two wins to open the slate.

In Tuesday’s district opener, the Lady Tigers picked up a 55-38 win over Marshall. An early third quarter run put the game away for Mount Pleasant.

Paris Beard had 16 points and five rebounds for the Lady Tigers.

In their second game, the Lady Tigers traveled to Tyler to meet new district opponent and last year’s bi-district playoff opponent Tyler High. Last season, the Lady Tigers and Lady Lions went to the final seconds literally as Mount Pleasant held on for a one-point win.

Last year’s meeting ended with a block by Jordyn Hargrave. The first meeting of the season was decided in part by Hargrave’s offense this time around as Mount Pleasant remained undefeated on the season with a 7558 win at Tyler High.

The Lady Tigers were down four to start the fourth quarter, but kicked off the frame with a 9-0 run to seize control and outscored the Lady Lions in the fourth quarter, 25-4.

Hargrave finished with 29 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter. Beard added 18 points. Miyah Farrier put in 17, Ella Cross scored four, Kendall Walker finished with three and both Conlee Zachry and Essence Hurndon scored two.

Kalyse Buffin and Bralyah Miller led Tyler High with 19 points each. Kyla Crawford finished with 10.

The Lady Tigers, ranked 13th in the TABChoops.org poll and fifth in the txhsgbb.com poll, hosted Whitehouse Tuesday and will take part in the Hallsville Tournament next weekend.
