Lady Rebels fall in final two games of 2022; Rebels roll in year’s finale

The Rivercrest Rebels and Lady Rebels closed out 2022 at home with the Lady Rebels playing twice and the Rebels playing once to end the year.

The Lady Rebels took on a solid Paris Homeschool Lady Warriors squad at home Thursday evening. The Lady Warriors jumped out to an 11-0 lead and held off Rivercrest’s late charge to win, 37-26 and improve to 19-1 on the year.

The Lady Rebels pulled to within nine at the half, but Paris used a 14-5 third quarter to put distance between the two teams. Rivercrest won the final frame, 11-4, as they clawed their way back.

Anna Duvall led Rivercrest with six points, four rebounds and two steals. Claire Grider added five points and Selena Kelley finished with five points and five boards. Macy Childres notched three points and three steals and Logan Huddleston put up three points and six rebounds. Alexis Case added two points and two steals and Diana Kelley put in two points. Both Stoney Carey and Abigail Scott snagged two rebounds.

Deanna McKim and Morgan Edwards both scored 12 for Paris Warriors. Anna Horton added six points.

Both Rivercrest teams closed the year Friday afternoon with a home game against Bloomburg.

The Lady Rebels were again cursed by a slow start as the Lady Wildcats, ranked 10th in Class 1A, jumped out to a 21-6 halftime lead. Rivercrest battled back but Bloomburg was able to hang on for a 45-36 win.

Selena Kelley led Rivercrest with 14 points. Duvall added 13, dropping 11 in the fourth quarter. Childres finished with five and both Carey and Abby Ross put in two.

It was a family affair for Bloomburg as Cassie Glasgow led the Lady Wildcats with 21 points. Jacie Glasgow added 11 and Kaylee Glasgow scored nine.

In the boys game, the Rebels put up a dominant performance, jumping out to a 20-point lead after the first quarter and never letting up as they rolled past the Wildcats, 80-20. Every Rebel except one scored in the game and every Rebel recorded at least one stat.

Gavin Bishop led the Rebels with 16 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Cayden Williams finished with 15 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals. Tre Williams added 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Mark Grider notched 10 points, nine steals, five rebounds and three assists. Kayden Skaggs put up nine points, three boards, three assists and five steals while Noah Altal had eight points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals. Connor Herring put up five points and two rebounds, Chase Duffer added four points and four boards and Dylan Earley finished with two points, two rebounds and two assists.

Luke Porterfield led the Wildcats with eight points. Memphis Coffey added five and Chris Jones finished with three.

The Lady Rebels opened district play Friday at Detroit. The Rebels are off until Jan. 13 when they open district play at home against James Bowie.
