The Rivercrest Lady Rebels had a chance to complete a huge goal Friday when they hosted Detroit with a district title on the line. The gym was packed and the team came out looking to clinch the title against the team they’d split with this season.

Unfortunately, a slow start hurt the Lady Rebels and Detroit capitalized, picking up a 3-0 win (19-25, 22-25, 12-25) over Rivercrest to claim the season series, 2-1, and the district title.

A tough first set saw the Lady Rebels getting to balls, but hitting them outside of scoring range. A late rally attempt pulled Rivercrest closer, but Detroit finished the set to claim the opener.

Set two was played even for most of the set, but a late flurry kept the Lady Rebels from evening things up. Unfortunately, Detroit seized the momentum in the third and finished the match off for the win.

Despite the loss, Lady Rebel Head Coach Sara Beth Upchurch was confident her team would bounce back with the playoffs looming.

“It’s not the result we wanted, but we will shake this one off and finish the season strong,” she said.

The Lady Rebels will take on Linden-Kildare in the bi-district round and finished the regular season Tuesday at Clarksville.
