The Rivercrest Lady Rebels don’t mind a good battle on the volleyball court as they work towards their district opener. The team got a test in their first game of last week, then got a chance to avenge an early-season loss in their second.

The Lady Rebels hosted Wolfe City last Tuesday, falling in a battle, 3-2, to the Lady Wolves. Despite the loss, Coach Sara Beth Upchurch said she was proud of her team’s grit and determination.

“Every coach I face and every ref I come in contact with all have the same comment – that our girls play with so much heart and they go so hard,” she said. “As we inch closer to district, this team is showing that we still haven’t peaked yet.”

Vivian Hines had 20 assists, 26 digs, four aces and five kills. Anna Duvall added seven kills and 17 digs. Diana Kelley finished with five kills, three aces and seven digs. Logan Huddleston notched 23 digs and four assists.

Elizabeth Langehennig put down seven kills with 14 digs. Emma Johnson added seven kills, three aces and a block and Stoney Carey notched 13 digs.

Rivercrest hit the road Friday to take on Linden- Kildare, avenging an early-season tournament loss to the Lady Tigers with a 3-0 win.

“This was a great team win,” Coach Upchurch said. Hines finished with six aces, 20 assists and nine digs. Carey added three aces and Duvall had 10 digs. Kelley finished with six kills and a block. Huddleston had seven digs and two aces.

Langehennig finished with lucky sevens in kills and digs and Johnson notched six kills and two blocks.

The Lady Rebels took on Como-Pickton Tuesday and will open district play next Tuesday at Harts Bluff.
