The Pewitt Lady Brahmas picked up their first district win of the year last Tuesday, doing so in the final seconds.
With eight seconds left in the game, Pewitt’s Dazha Cooper headed to the line and sank two free throws to give the Lady Brahmas the lead in the waning sec onds. Pewitt’s defense made the difference as the Lady Brahmas prevented Redwater from getting a shot off in time and Pewitt held off the Lady Dragons, 50-49.
Redwater took a four-point lead into the game’s final two minutes, but Pewitt forced three turnovers and scored the game’s final six points – including the game winnng free throws – off of those turnovers.
Shawni Cooper led the Lady Brahmas with 15 points. Jailyn Smith added 13 and Dazha Cooper finished with nine points. K.K. Jackson and Taliyah Brown both scored three and Natalie Cobb put in two.
Reagan Markham led the Lady Dragons with 17 points.
The Lady Brahmas took part in the Hawkins Tournament this week and will resume district play Jan. 4 at home against New Boston.
